to the little one...
The birthday party was yesterday. She's 7 years old. I sent 21 invitations to her classroom. We gathered at the park and waited. The decorations looked nice. The cake was adorable. Her piggy tails were so cute. Guess how many kids from her classroom showed up, none. Zero!!! Luckily it wasn't a total no show. Two neibor kids and a family friend made it to the party. So what's the deal?
I know she's not mean or unpopular. I've seen this at school events. She's a little sweetie and there are always kids hanging around her. I expected that some familys would be busy and not be able to be there. I figured 5 or 10 kids would show up though. I never imagined it would be zero.
I also had another surprise planned. The news station features local birthdays. They announce birthdays and show a picture every morning a few minutes after 6. So I sent them the date and a photo, 10 days ago. I woke her up extra early so she wouldn't miss it. The announcment time came. They mentioned 3 or 4 birthdays, but not hers!!!
Luckily, she had fun and didn't seem to notice that anything had went wrong. I, on the other hand, am so disappointed.
At this age you are dependant on the parents to get them there. If a kid really wants to go and the parent can't bring them abd pick them up, then the parent will bribe the kid with money or something so they don't have to shlep the kid.
